Mrs. Jean Hanigan

My name is Jean Hanigan and I am your library media specialist/librarian.  I love working at EMES with its great staff and students.  This is my 10th year at EMES. I received my Bachelors Degree in Elementary Education from Iowa State University and Masters of Library Science from the University of Missouri.

My favorite pastimes are READING, traveling and the St. Louis Cardinals!

The library at Eastern Montgomery Elementary is a great place to visit!  We have 25 computers and over 12,000 books and magazines.  The library serves about 450 student in grades PK - 5th.  The PK - 2nd classes visit the library for 30 minutes each week.  3rd-5th have a scheduled time every other week.  They can also come down with their teachers and do fun activities, research, book talks, check out books, etc.  All students are also encouraged to use the library individually during open times to exchange their books.

A great time is always had by all in the Library when the Scholastic Book Fair arrives!  We have one in the Fall and one in the Spring.  Usually in October and March around parent-teacher conferences.  All proceeds for the Fair go to the purchase of library books and equipment.

My husband and I moved to Blacksburg from the St. Louis area in 2005.  We have 2 sons - Patrick, who is in the Navy and is a JAG lawyer and David, who is an Assistant Professor at the University of Nevada-Reno in Environmental Engineering.
