I hope everyone has adjusted to writing 2016 on everything; I am still struggling with that :-) Things are off to a great start with 2nd grade and we have hit the ground running.
This coming week we will be testing on our math unit about time and measurement, which they kids have done great with. We still need constant review with telling time and keeping those hands straight on which hand to look at first, but we're getting there! The kids especially love playing "Around the World", which is a competitive way of reviewing and practicing their skills with telling time and addition. Also, we have tied Multiplication in with our unit of Time, so the kids are learning their "5's" facts as we go.
In Reading Groups, I have begun working with 5 groups a day for about 20 minutes each. I am extremely pleased with the growth I've seen in just these few months of reading levels. If you think of it like an alphabet, with level M being about the norm for this point in the year for the average 2nd grader, the levels range from I all the way to T, which is a great range. Thank you for all of your support and assistance at home and your continued encouragement with our young readers.
