Check out this fun way to Read, Write, and Relax at EMES! A few of years ago, one of our teachers, Mrs. Lawson, came across the idea of a hammock reading garden and thought it would be a perfect fit for our school. She imagined a place where students could enjoy reading while spending time outdoors. The project became possible through a Montgomery County Educational Foundation grant, with funding from the Dr. Dale Margheim Memorial Fund. After receiving the grant, we learned that Dr. Margheim, a lifelong educator and former principal of Shawsville Elementary School, loved both reading and the outdoors, making this project even more meaningful. Students had their first chance to enjoy the hammocks this week. We are excited to see this space used and enjoyed by many more students for years to come! A special thank you to the Montgomery County Educational Foundation and the Dr. Dale Margheim Memorial Fund for helping bring this idea to life!

🍎 The Crunch Heard 'Round the Commonwealth 🍎

The EMES student body enjoyed a fresh, locally grown Golden Delicious apple in celebration of the Crunch Heard 'Round the Commonwealth. This tradition is in partnership with Virginia Farm To School Week (Oct. 6-10).

🍽️ Summer Meals in July 🍽️ Every Monday in July, meals will be available to children 18 and under, free of charge. Meal kits will contain seven breakfasts and seven lunch meals. Pick-up is from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. on July 7, 14, 21, and 28. at SMS, BES and Belmont Christian Church. Children do not need to be present at the time of pick-up. This program is open to anyone in the community with children under the age of 18. #WeAreMCPS
